Lord Stanley

The Kings are playing for the Stanley Cup! As a long-time Kings fan and former season ticket holder who suffered through many seasons of mediocre hockey, this turn of events is bringing a lot of excitement into my house. And to make things even more exciting, my friend Sherry (a current season ticket holder) invited me to join her at Game 4 this week because her husband had an unfortunately-timed business trip that forced him to miss the game. The Kings were up 3 games to none and had the chance to win the Cup at home, but alas they did not. Still, it was very exciting to be in the building and I took a few pictures, of course. Here’s a short slideshow.

Card from Ezra

Ezra came home from school with a card for me this week. As far as I can tell, there’s no particular occasion which makes it even better.

My Morning at Aveson

I finally stopped slacking yesterday and went in to do some volunteer hours in Ezra’s classroom. And I’m so glad I did.

We started off the day in Ms. Thea’s advisory (like homeroom) with the “feelings ball.” The children rolled the ball to each other and took turns saying how they were feeling and why. Ezra was feeling happy because he had a loose tooth and tired because he stayed up late wiggling it.

After that the class split into the yellow and green groups and joined with the second graders. Ezra’s in the green group so he stayed in Thea’s class and it was time for Friday yoga.

During a break in between poses, Ezra’s tooth fell out! Thea brought him the special baggie they use for this occasion. He was pretty excited.

Then it was time for partner yoga, so he paired up with his friend Roman to do some more poses.

Once the yoga was done, the kids split up — some got a small group math lesson and some made dragons in honor of Chinese New Year. Jerri (also volunteering in the classroom) and I made gridlines on watercolor paper for next week’s lesson.

Birthday Date Night

Bruce and I had a lovely birthday dinner-and-a-movie date last night. And we had our server take a picture of us. So I thought I’d post it.

Birthday Card from Ezra

Ezra made me a birthday card at school and gave it to me yesterday.

Things I love:

1. He signed it “Ezra Moision;”
2. We have party hats on; and
3. He draws me tall and skinny.

Love that boy.

Weekend Away

And speaking of the weekend, the boys were left to paper mache on their own because it was Mommy-Jamma time. I took exactly two pictures on my incredibly leisurely weekend.

My view #1

My view #2

That was my view from my lounge chair by the pool. Yeah, it’s awful in Palm Springs.

Park Bench

Park bench + Intagram app = fun.

A mom’s gotta do something to keep herself busy at the park.

New Lens

I got a new lens for my SLR on Friday, and yesterday’s activities (papier mache in the backyard, Tour of California in downtown L.A.) gave me a couple of good opportunities to try it out. Here’s a slideshow of my favorites.

Mother’s Day

We had a lovely mellow Mother’s Day this year. I got to sleep in and was greeted by Ezra at about 7:30 who told me he’d made breakfast for me. He got my slippers for me and ushered me into the kitchen where I found  pancakes, orange slices, and coffee. I had heard some arguing before Ezra had come in, and later Bruce told me that the boys were fighting over how many orange slices to put on the plate (Ezra wanted two, Finn wanted one — Ezra won). It looks like my little foodies are already worried about presentation.

They also cut a giant bouquet of roses from the backyard:

In the afternoon I took the boys for a walk over to Polkatots Cupcakes to pick up a treat. They waited patiently for our turn in line:

After that, Bruce took them to the Arroyo and I got the most coveted two-plus hours of home-alone time. I read, napped, and relaxed. Heaven.

Gone!

Why yes, that is the empty spot in the driveway where my dad’s truck used to sit. I finally sold it! Woohoo!!
